Mindfulness
Practices: Tools for Everyday Life 8 weeks £72/£52 (which
includes course materials and CDs)
Tuesday 15 January 07 3.15pm-5pm
This course is especially appropriate for people
who have experienced stress, anxiety or bouts of depression.
Each session will include some gentle yoga, a period of
meditation, and strategies to help us work with our thoughts,
feelings and bodily sensations.
Although the course is held at the Glasgow
Buddhist Centre it is entirely secular in nature. The course,
based on a mindfulness approach, is designed to develop self
understanding and provide a range of strategies to alleviate
personal distress. It is for people who actively wish to make
changes in the way they approach life: it is not for people who
are at present acutely ill. Each week strategies are developed
within a warm and friendly setting. The main pre-requisite for
joining is a willingness and commitment to engage fully with the
programme, which will involve practice at home before sessions
(20 - 45 minutes a day)
Ratnadevi is a member of the Western Buddhist
Order and an experienced yoga and meditation teacher.

Deepening our skills in
mindful movement: understanding the spine
Workshop Friday 8 February Edinburgh
A day of reflective practice for mindfulness
practitioners and teachers.
Body awareness and movement practices offer a
huge potential to expand awareness and bring us into our senses
in the present moment. Many people who are now teaching
mindfulness are mental health professionals who may have limited
training and experience in movement education. This day is
designed to help you build confidence in teaching movement and
to expand your own body awareness so that you can embody this
awareness for others.
Taught by two experienced movement educators
and mindfulness practitioners, this day promises to be
instructive, meditative and supportive. We will cover attitudes
towards the body, injury prevention and how to adapt movement
lessons for special populations such as those with back pain.
The day will assume some knowledge of Mindfulness-based Stress
reduction (MBSR).
Course Tutors: Ratnadevi- MBCT (mindfulness
based cognitive therapy) and yoga teacher, experienced
meditation teacher and retreat leader, musician, visual artist.
Laura-Hope Steckler, Clinical psychologist, somatic movement
therapist and body-psychotherapist, yoga practitioner, dancer
and mindfulness instructor.
10 am 5 pm. Friday 8 February, Gillis Centre
Edinburgh cost £45 (excluding lunch which can be booked as an
extra)

COMING TO OUR SENSES THROUGH YOGA & MEDITATION
10 - 13 October (Fri 6pm Mon noon)
This long, spacious weekend retreat offers the opportunity to
take a break from our busy lives and re-connect with the things
that really matter: feeling centered and connected to ourselves,
others, the environment and our purpose in life. Yoga is both
invigorating and relaxing and together with meditation helps us
to slow down and see the world with fresh appreciation. Weather
allowing some practice will take place outside, in the peaceful
and magical setting of the island. Last year we did a walking
meditation on the grassy shore, amongst the wild horses. Places
are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Cost: £80 plus accommodation

and bed linen/towels):

This retreat offers a nourishing combination
of yoga, chi kung and meditation to re-centre ourselves and
enjoy a felt sense of connectedness with all the elements
(earth, water, fire, air and space) and with each other. The
retreat may well give rise to the inspiration for personal
and/or global change and there will be opportunities to design
our own, creative rituals to support these changes. Getting out
of the rut of old behaviour patterns can be hard; the power and
fascination of ritual helps to establish new habits in our lives
that are conducive to making our dreams come true.
